Jedi, Sith Lords and rebels prepare now! Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge will partially open at Walt Disney World on August 29.
Disney leaders just announced the much-anticipated opening date and the hype is real. Until today, we had only been told the all-new land would open at Disney's Hollywood Studios this fall.
The Disneyland Resort version of the land will open May 31.
According to Disney, Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run will open as part of phase one, giving guests the chance to "take the controls of the most famous ship in the galaxy." They'll also get to sample the new food and beverage options and check out merchant shops inside the new area.
Phase two, set to open sometime later in the year, includes Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance, "the most ambitious, immersive and advanced attraction ever imagined that will put guests in the middle of a climactic battle between the First Order and the Resistance and will blur the lines between fantasy and reality."
Disney said it was an intentional decision to open the all-new land in phases.
"In light of tremendous demand, Disney made the decision to open the land in phases to allow guests to sooner enjoy the one-of-a-kind experiences that make Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge so spectacular," reads the Disney Parks Blog.
And in a smart move, Walt Disney World leaders will include Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge in the roster of attractions/destinations open during Extra Magic Hours. Extra Magic Hours are available for guests staying at select Walt Disney World Resort hotels.
