Ever wonder what it's like to celebrate the holidays in England? How about China?
The Gaylord Palms Resort in Kissimmee can help answer those questions this year with their annual ICE! attraction. This year's theme is Christmas Around the World, which showcases a variety of holiday traditions from different cultures.
This theme was displayed last year at the Gaylord National Harbor in Washington, D.C.
"We're excited to bring this theme to Central Florida, especially since the Orlando area hosts millions of visitors from around the world each year," said Johann Krieger, the resort's general manager. "We feel this year's ICE! theme and our holiday events embrace cultural diversity and our unifying similarities, celebrating love and peace during this special time of year."
ICE! has become a beloved Central Florida way of getting a taste for winter without having to abandon our flip flops and palms trees for a whole season. Gaylord hotels around the country bring in international ice artists to skillfully construct each display (a different one at each resort) out of more than two million pounds of colorful, bright chunks of ice.
Guests can see the display inside a tent, kept at a cool nine degrees. Don't worry! A parka is provided with admission, but I recommend you bring a hat and gloves, too.
Before guests even enter the ICE! tent, they're greeted by Alpine Village, the resort's central hub for holiday activities. There you'll find a variety of food and beverage options and even photo opps with Santa.
Like last year, the village also includes Santa's Snow Throw, snow tubing and gingerbread decorating. Mrs. Claus returns for a 30-minute interactive show that features holiday stories and a sing-a-long.
The holidays are never just about ice at Gaylord Palms and this year's no different. Cirque Dreams Unwrapped returns to the resort with a new show and never-before-seen acts that perform on the atrium stage. The 25-minute show delivers a punch with high-flying performances and the whimsy Cirque is known for.
Other features of Gaylord Palms' holiday experience:
Joyful: A new nightly show featuring an exclusive holiday musical score and dancing lights. It takes place in the resort's atrium around the six-story Christmas tree.
Build-A-Bear Workshop Scavenger Hunt: Guests search for Snowburst, the Gaylord Hotels' polar bear and his friends, all of whom has a holiday talent.
Breakfast with Charlie Brown & Friends: This event started last year when the ICE! theme was Peanuts. It seems it was successful enough to deserve a second round! Breakfast comes from the award-winning Villa de Florida restaurant and features items like the Charlie Brown Build-Your-Own-French-Toast Station and Pig Pen's hash browns.
