Universal Orlando Resort leaders announced today the Dragon Challenge rollercoaster is permanently closing Sept. 5.
Located inside The Wizarding World of Harry Potter -- Hogsmeade at Universal's Islands of Adventure, Dragon Challenge features two different tracks and riders board either the Chinese Fireball or the Hungarian Horntail.
A highly-themed, all-new thrill ride will replace it and open in 2019, said Universal.
Universal said the ride will "take you deeper into J.K. Rowling's Wizarding World, where you will encounter some of your favorite characters and creatures."
The project is a collaborative effort by the Universal Creative team and Warner Bros. and the production design team from the Harry Potter film series.
Dragon Challenge was originally introduced at Islands of Adventures in 1999 and was named Dueling Dragons. It was rebranded as the Dragon Challenge when Hogsmeade opened in 2010.
The ride's last day of operation will be Sept. 4, according to Universal leaders.
